Jay Emmanuel-Thomas has revealed he lost all interest in football after he was dropped from the Ipswich first team.
The player missed two months of the campaign after manager Mick McCarthy lost patience with the former Arsenal trainee's attitude during an Under-21 game game against Charlton.
Emmanuel-Thomas, 22, has since returned to McCarthy's line-up but admits he has not yet won over all of the Portman Road fans.
He told the East Anglian Daily Times: "My head was in a bad place during the Charlton game.
"I played in the game and I scored but it did not really mean anything.
"I had a conversation with Mick McCarthy and I apologised and since then I have been getting back to the levels I was at before."
He added: "I am like Marmite, and the fans either like me or they don't, but that doesn't faze me."
