McCarthy happy with Gills workout

Manager Mick McCarthy is pleased with how Ipswich are shaping up ahead of the forthcoming Sky Bet Championship campaign.

Town continued their preparations on Saturday with a 2-0 win at Gillingham in the searing heat, with Alex Henshall and Luke Hyam scoring the goals.

"It was a good workout for the lads, especially in the intense heat that both teams had to play in," McCarthy told the club's official website.

"I thought we played well and I thought we deserved to win.

"I can't remember Gerks [Dean Gerken] having a save to make and I was thoroughly pleased with the performance.

"We're playing well and we've come through another game without picking up any injuries, so I'm very pleased."
