Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy has said he will be sad to see Bradley Orr return to Blackburn when his loan spell ends this month.

Orr will play his last game of a three-month loan deal with the Tractor Boys against Championship strugglers Bristol City on Saturday.

The 30-year-old will then return to Ewood Park and new manager Michael Appleton.

McCarthy had come to a verbal agreement with Rovers for the deal to be extended until the end of the season, but Appleton has decided to bring Orr back when his initial loan deal expires to have a look at the defender.

McCarthy was full of praise for Orr, who has played 12 times since joining in November, saying he would be interested in a return to East Anglia: "I think he'd be open to a return. I don't actually think he wants to go back because he's enjoying playing.

"I said to him circumstances have changed, there's a different manager and if he goes back and is playing, he'll be happy."
