Ipswich face competition from Birmingham as they weigh up offering former Manchester United midfielder Quinton Fortune a contract.

Town boss Roy Keane knows Fortune from the pair's time together at Old Trafford and he is planning to offer the South African international a trial during pre-season.

If he impresses, Keane could hand the 32-year-old a one-year deal at Portman Road but recently-promoted Birmingham are also looking at the midfielder.

Fortune is believed to be interested in working with Keane, but the lure of a return to the Premier League with Birmingham may prove too difficult to resist if City decide to offer him a deal as well.
