Town to target Mayn man

IpswichCrewe Alexandra have put a £2.5million valuation on striker Nicky Maynard - but Ipswich are unlikely to swoop at that price.

Town boss Jim Magilton is thought to be one of many Championship managers looking at the highly-rated League One prospect, who is touted to move in the next few weeks.

Speculation that Crewe are ready to sell the 21-year-old was fuelled by yesterday's arrival at Gresty Road of front man Antony Elding from Leeds United for £150,000.

But Magilton is in no mood to pay over the odds for a player who has yet to fully mature - although he does have an opening for a pacy striker at Portman Road.

However, Crewe are reported to have put a £2.5million fee on the head of Maynard, pricing him out of most club's reach.
