Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has revealed the club are closing in on Catania forward Alejandro Gomez.
The former Argentina Under-20 international has already suggested he is keen to move on this summer and was heavily linked with a move to Inter Milan, although it never materialised.
Gomez could now link up with ex-Catania boss Diego Simeone at the Vicente Calderon.
Cerezo told Argentine station Radio La Red the two clubs were in the process of negotiating a deal, with reports in Italy claiming Gomez could make the switch to Spain as early as next week.
The 25-year-old netted eight times in 36 Serie A appearances last term and laid on seven goals for his team-mates.
