Moyes makes future claim

NewsDavid Moyes has delivered a blow to suitors Newcastle and Tottenham by insisting he intends to turn Everton's wretched season around.

Moyes, speaking after Everton's Uefa Cup hopes were ended by Standard Liege in Belgium on Thursday, has vowed to steer the club through their current lean patch and has confirmed he will sign his new contract at Goodison Park.

Everton have lost all three Premier League games so far on home soil and last week were dumped out of the Carling Cup by Blackburn, meaning punters pondering a 25 free bet have just the FA Cup market to consider as the Toffees seek some silverware.

Speculation has been rife that the Scot is close to signing a new, long-term deal at Goodison Park, but he has so far failed to put pen to paper.

However, Moyes said: "There's no manager who thinks they have an easy ride. That's part of it. But I want to stay.

"There might be a timescale, something might happen."

When pressed if he could assure Everton supporters he will stay, Moyes replied: "The supporters have known that for a long time."

Moyes, who joined the club from Preston in March 2002, guided Everton to a top-four finish in 2004/2005 and supporters will be hoping he can reverse their current form - starting on Sunday against crisis club Newcastle.
