Leeds are understood to be the front runners to sign young Manchester City full-back Reece Wabara.
The defender has attracted interest from a number of clubs this summer, including three of the Whites' Championship rivals - Wigan Athletic, Doncaster Rovers and Millwall.
Wabara made his first-team debut for City against Bolton Wanderers in the final Premier League game of the 2010/11 season, but he has not made another appearance since then.
He has had three loan spells - at Ipswich Town, Blackpool and Oldham Athletic - for whom he played 25 times in League One last season.
The 21-year-old is entering the final year of his contract and, if the right offer is made, is likely to be allowed to leave City, with the likes of Pablo Zabaleta, Maicon and Micah Richards ahead of him in the pecking order.
Brian McDermott is keen to strengthen his defensive options, especially with right-back Sam Byram continuing to attract interest as Crystal Palace are believed to be chasing his signature.
