Deal not in Can for Reds

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is closing in on the signing of Emre Can from Bayer Leverkusen but his wage demands could scupper the deal.

Liverpool have apparently informed their counterparts in Germany that they are prepared to offer the £10million which would in turn trigger the release clause in his contract with the Bundesliga club.

His representatives appear to be dragging their feet when it comes to agreeing terms for the German Under-21-international and Leverkusen have not yet given up hope of persuading him to stay in Germany.

Bayern Munich also retain a buy back option after selling him last summer for £4.5million, Can having come through the youth ranks at Bayern before leaving so he could play first team football.

Rodgers is keen to land the midfielder as his versatility would be a major plus, he can play in central midfield or at left-back and in the heart of the defence but the deal is a long way from being cut and dried.
