Duo target Lyon ace

Liverpool and Chelsea are ready to battle it out for the services of Lyon defender Dejan Lovren in the summer, reports have claimed.

The Croatia international has become a regular in the Lyon side after moving to France from Dinamo Zagreb in January 2010 and a host of Europe's top clubs are showing an interest.

Both Liverpool and Chelsea are keen to sign a new central defender in the close season and the 23-year-old is said to be on their wanted list, while Everton have also been linked.

Lovren does have a poor disciplinary record after being sent off three times this season but his game is suited to the Premier League and a bidding war could be on the cards.

The defender has a contract with Lyon until 2014 but there are no signs of him penning a new one and Lyon could sell rather than risk losing him for nothing.
