England hold Gerrard hope

Last Updated: Thu, 14 Nov 2013 09:32

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard has been given a pain killing injection in the hope that he can play for England against Germany.

The Reds midfielder will miss Friday's clash with Chile after picking up a hip injury but he has had an injection and England head coach Roy Hodgson hopes he will be fit enough to play on Tuesday.

Hodgson said: "Gerrard misses Chile but he's had an injection and I hope he will be fit for Germany."

Reds striker Daniel Sturridge is also a doubt for the double header with an ankle injury but, after having it looked at, it is just bruising and he is still in contention.
