Italians to scupper striker bid

Last Updated: Sun, 16 Mar 2014 06:31

Liverpool's hopes of landing FC Porto star Juan Iturbe have been hit by the news Napoli have entered the running.

Iturbe is currently impressing while on loan with Hellas Verona in Italy and his form has not gone unnoticed at Anfield, with Brendan Rodgers keen to do a deal.

Verona have first option to sign the highly-rated forward on a permanent basis but that will not deter the Reds from making a move at the end of the season.

The same can be said of Napoli after director Riccardo Bigon confirmed an approach will be made to Verona, not Porto, regards a move for Iturbe.

"When it comes to Iturbe we just need to talk with Verona, as they have the option to buy them, we don't need to talk with FC Porto, but it's always a pleasure to talk with them, as they know how to run football at a very high level."
