Liverpool have agreed in principal to sign Valencia defender Aly Cissokho on a season-long loan deal with a view to permanent transfer.
Manager Brendan Rodgers has been looking for reinforcements at left-back as Jose Enrique is his only senior player in that position and identified the Frenchman as a viable option.
Cissokho is expected to travel to Merseyside next week to undergo a medical and agree personal terms, although it is understood Liverpool do not believe that will be an issue.
An agreement is in place for the club to sign Cissokho, who has also attracted the attention of Sunderland this summer, permanently should his season-long stay be successful.
Rodgers is keen to add a couple of players to his squad before the end of the transfer window and wants to further strengthen his attacking options before September 2.
