Reds handed huge double boost

Last Updated: Sat, 08 Mar 2014 13:51

Liverpool have received a double injury boost after both Lucas and Mamadou Sakho came through an Under-21 game unscathed on Friday.

The injured duo stepped up their comebacks with a run-out for the Reds' youngsters against West Ham and the pair reported no ill-effects after impressing in the 2-0 win.

Brazil international Lucas, who has not played since the 2-2 draw with Aston Villa on January 18 because of a knee injury, played the full 90 minutes, while Sakho, who has been out since December 28 with a hamstring problem, featured for 70 minutes.

Both players will now continue to be monitored in training over the next week but will hope to be involved in the first-team squad for next Sunday's big clash at Manchester United.

The news is a timely boost to boss Brendan Rodgers' options for the run-in as the Reds look to cement a top-four Premier League finish.
