Reds hope to land Bayern ace

Liverpool are set to fight off competition from Manchester United to land Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri, reports have claimed.

The 22-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from Bayern after he struggled to make an impact under the leadership of Pep Guardiola and a bid in the region of £15million could secure his signature.

United and Italian giants Juventus are known to be keen on the flying winger, but it looks like Liverpool have jumped to the head of the queue, if Bayern sanction a move.

Whether Liverpool can wrap up a deal before the World Cup remains to be seen, but the asking price could be hiked up further if he stars for Switzerland during the tournament.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has already been busy, concluding deals for Rickie Lambert and Germany-Under-21 international Emre Can from Bayer Leverkusen, and Shaqiri could be next.
