Cross-city rivals Liverpool and Everton are set to clash in the transfer marker as both are keen on landing Will Hughes from Derby.
The midfielder has been on Liverpool's wanted list for a while as he is seen as a possible long-term replacement for Steven Gerrard, but Reds scouts were joined by two from the Blue side of the city when he was in action at Bolton on Tuesday.
Brendan Rodgers remains favourite to land the England Under-21 international but he will not be able to take his time over a move, with interest elsewhere, so he may be forced into an early bid in January.
The 18-year-old limped off at Bolton after picking up a knock but he had already set up one goal in the 2-2 draw before being substituted.
