Liverpool's hopes of landing Udinese defender Pablo Armero in the new year have taken a knock with the news Juventus are after him.
The Italian champions' interest is bound to make things a lot harder for Brendan Rodgers who had wanted to add the Colombian international to his ranks to shore up his back line.
Juve are said to be ready to make an £8m move for the player but Udinese want £10m so the Reds may still have a chance if they are quick enough.
Meanwhile, Middlesbrough are ready to play the waiting game to take Stewart Downing back to the Riverside.
The Reds are happy to let the winger go but Boro want him on a subsidised loan deal and could move in the new year.
