Liverpool have announced that they have signed Portuguese defender Tiago Ilori from Sporting Lisbon.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has been chasing further additions to his squad and had been linked with a swoop for the highly-rated 20-year-old stopper earlier in the summer, with claims he had an initial £3million bid rebuffed by Sporting.
However, after their interest appeared to cool, the Reds were again linked with Ilori when it emerged that their Uruguayan international centre-half Sebastian Coates was ruled out for the majority of this season with a serious knee injury.
Sporting valued the centre-half, who was actually born in London, at the £6m mark but as yet there is no conformation of how much Liverpool paid or how long his contract at Anfield is for.
