Liverpool have jumped to the front of the queue of clubs looking to land Benfica star Nicolas Gaitan in the summer.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is busy compiling a list of targets as he looks to build a squad capable of an assault on the Champions League and the Premier League with the attacking midfielder apparently an option.
Thought of as a player who can unlock a stubborn defence, the Argentine is rated in the region of £20million and that should be enough to persuade the Portuguese giants to sell a player they bought for just £7million four years ago.
After events of this week it may be that Rodgers changes his buying plans and looks to add to his leaky defence before worrying about an attack that has not been a problem all season.
