Reds resurrect Belgian interest

Liverpool are reportedly set to make a January transfer window swoop for PSV Eindhoven's Belgium international winger Dries Mertens.

The Reds were linked with a swoop for the 25-year-old when Kenny Dalglish was at the helm in the second half of last season after the player took the Dutch Eredivisie by storm with an impressive 20 goals in 23 appearances.

No move materialised in the summer when Brendan Rodgers took over at Anfield, but it now seems that the current Reds chief is keen to bring in the midfielder to boost the number of goals from his side following a fairly disappointing start to the season.

Mertens, who joined PSV from Utrecht last year and has already bagged four goals in his first five games this season, is contracted to the Dutch outfit until 2016 and would cost around £10million.

However that would be no problem to Rodgers, although they would face competition from several other clubs for his signature if PSV do make him available.
