Rodgers happy with City result

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers was delighted after watching his side fight back twice to beat Manchester City in New York.

City twice led in the match at Yankee Stadium but Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling both found the back of the net to take the International Champions Cup game to a penalty shoot-out.

New signing Emre Can, Lucas Leiva and Henderson all scored from the spot as Liverpool won 3-1 on penalties and Rodgers was happy with his side's effort.

"It was a great game for us," Rodgers said. "Manchester City are a wonderful team and will go close in the Premier League again this year.

"We scored two goals and could have had three more. Joe Hart made three outstanding saves.

"What has been the trademark of this team over the past 18 months has been the character. We showed it again to keep going and get ourselves back in the game."
