Rodgers ponders striking options

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Newcastle striker Demba Ba as they look to ease their striker crisis.

Italian forward Fabio Borini broke a foot on international duty last week and has been ruled out for nearly three months.

That leaves Luis Suarez as the only fit senior striker at the club, with Andy Carroll on season-long loan at West Ham.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has now turned his attentions to the transfer market to fill his goalscoring void, with a January move for Toon striker Ba a possibility.

The Senegal international has been a huge success on Tyneside since his free transfer move from West Ham in 2011, bagging 22 goals in 41 league appearances.

However, negotiations over a new contract have stalled and a £7million release clause will be activated again when the transfer window reopens.

Rodgers will have funds available in January and it appears Ba has moved to the top of his shortlist, with reports on Saturday suggesting a formal bid is being prepared.

The Anfield club had considered a move for Hamburg striker Son Heung-min, but the Bundesliga side have told them he is not for sale.
