Rovers to bid for Reds ace

LiverpoolBlackburn will use some of the cash raised from the sale of David Bentley to launch a £6million bid for Liverpool's Jermaine Pennant.

Rovers have reluctantly allowed Bentley to join Spurs for an initial £15million and have now immediately turned their attentions to drafting in a replacement for the England international.

Boss Paul Ince has identified Pennant as the man he wants to bring in and will make an offer in the region of £6million. Liverpool need to balance the books after splashing out over £20million on Robbie Keane this week and are likely to accept the bid.

Portsmouth are also known to be keen on the former Arsenal and Leeds player, as they look set to fail with their attempts to sign Shaun Wright-Phillips from Chelsea.
