Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has vowed to fight for his place under Brendan Rodgers and says he was never going to leave Anfield.
The 28-year-old was man of the match in the Premier League win over arch rivals Manchester United last Sunday and, as he prepares for Slovakia's FIFA World Cup 2014 qualifying double-header against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Friday and next Tuesday, he has declared he is ready for the battle ahead.
Despite reports that manager Rodgers was going to sell him, the former Zenit St Petersburg centre-back claims at no point did he consider leaving Merseyside.
Skrtel said: "I'm staying at Liverpool
"The rumours were never as strong as it was made out.
"There has been no contact with other clubs because the Liverpool management told me that they were counting on me.
"That is why a transfer was never in my plans."
