Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has told Raheem Sterling to forget about moving on and sign a new contract at Anfield next month.

Sterling turns 18 on December 8 and he can then sign a senior contract for the first time but, despite talks between his representatives and the club, no official offer has been made as yet, although Liverpool maintain that was always going to be the case.

Chelsea and Manchester City are monitoring the situation but Liverpool remain adamant that a deal will be done to keep him at Anfield and that he has a big future with the Reds.

"I think it is important for the club that we sign our young talents but I think it is even more important for Raheem," Rodgers said.

"This is a club that is going to give young players an opportunity. He has played more games than he could have dreamed of this season, both in the Premier League and the Europa League.

"Liverpool Football Club has given him the chance to become a full international player. So, I would think if I am Raheem Sterling and his agents, I would look to tie it up very quickly."
