Luis Suarez believes Liverpool have shown enough this season to suggest they can enjoy a much better campaign in 2013-14.
The Reds have been hit or miss this term, with some fine performances interspersed with several poor displays and results, both in the Premier League and the cups.
Brendan Rodgers' men are out of the FA Cup following a shock fourth-round defeat at Oldham and were also knocked out of the Europa League last month on the away-goals rule by Zenit St Petersburg.
One constant bright spot this season has been Suarez, however, whose 25 goals in all competitions means he is a contender for player of the year.
The striker has insisted recently that he is happy on Merseyside and wants to stay long term despite talk of a summer move to Bayern Munich if, as looks likely, Liverpool miss out on a top-four place and Champions League football again.
Suarez believes there have been enough positive signs to suggest they can improve next season, despite the fact the Reds trail Chelsea in fourth by 10 points ahead of Saturday's game at Wigan.
The 26-year-old told the club's website: "I think we've turned in some great performances in the league which have shown the real Liverpool that everyone wants to see, which will serve as the basis for what happens next year.
"I think the team is developing nicely, the new signings have settled in well, the manager is happy and I think if we carry on in the same vein we could have a very good season next time around."
He added: "Let's hope so because that's what we all want."
