Torres eyes Ballon d'Or

LiverpoolLiverpool's Fernando Torres has told French sports paper L'Equipe he dreams of becoming European Footballer of the Year.

The Spanish star has been nominated for the award, which is handed out on December 12, and has admitted it would be a dream come true to land the honour.

Previous winners have included Zinedine Zidane and Kaka, however, Torres faces competition from Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi for this year's accolade.

The striker himself concedes he never thought it was possible he would be nominated.

He said: "When I have watched the Ballon d'Or presentation on television I saw the likes of Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldinho and Kaka.

"I told myself that trophy was for players from another galaxy. Now I am among the candidates, and I cannot believe it.

"Winning the award would be like climbing to the top of Everest and touching the sky."
