Luton boss Kevin Blackwell says he will complete his ninth sumer signing by Saturday but David Bell is 50/50 to play against Hartlepool

But Blackwell refused to name the player or the position that he is looking to strengthen at his Thursday press conference.

Meanwhile, Kevin Langley requires a cruciate operation and will probably miss the season, while Bell is rated as 50/50 to be fit enough to be selected on Saturday.

"We lost quite a few players last year through soft injuries - hamstrings, groins, thighs, calves. Touch wood we've only lost one with a calf through the whole of pre-season and that's Bell with a tight calf," he said.

"The other injuries are a dead leg for Stephen O'Leary and a knee ligament for Langley but these are impact injuries. Hopefully the new stretching and the advice we've been given has stood us in good stead.

"For Saturday, David Bell is touch and go, Langley is having his surgery next Wednesday, Stephen O'Leary is back fit and Sol Davis will be away for at least a fortnight."

Blackwell also spoke about Sam Parkin, who has returned from injury this pre-season: "I'm very aware that he's been out for the best part of two years, so it's about not pushing him to a level where he breaks down. Parkin's come a long way. His attitude's been fantastic. I'm really excited that if we can get a fit Parkin out there we've got ourselves a real asset."
