Barton charged again

Man CityNewcastle's Joey Barton has until August 13 to respond to a violent conduct charge for his bust-up with Ousmane Dabo in May 2007.

The one-cap England midfielder admitted the assault on his former Man City team-mate earlier in the month and received a four-month sentence, suspended for two years, and was ordered to do 200 hours of community service.

Now the FA have charged him as well which could result in a lengthy ban and see Barton miss the start of the Premier League season.

An FA statement read: "The incident has been the result of legal proceedings which concluded at Manchester City Court on July 1, 2008.

"The FA has subsequently received all relevant documentation following the conclusion of this case and the charge is based on the certificate of conviction."
