Chelsea have joined Manchester City in the race to sign Greece international defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos.
The 21-year-old has impressed in the Bundesliga with Schalke this season and Europe's top clubs are said to be showing an interest in the player, who is valued in the region of £15million.
City are looking to freshen things up at the back and could make a move for the youngster, who can also play at full back or as a defensive midfielder.
As doubts surround the long-term future of John Terry and with David Luiz flourishing in a midfield role, Chelsea are also on the look out for a new central defender and Papadopoulos is said to be a target.
Papadopoulos does have options elsewhere in Europe with reports claiming that Atletico Madrid could offer him the chance to play his football in La Liga.
