Manchester City have confirmed that David Platt has left the club despite being offered to stay on and work with the next manager.
Platt, 46, was brought in by ex-City boss Roberto Mancini - a former teammate of his from Sampdoria - to work as first-team coach in July 2010.
He was offered the chance to stay on, but chose to walk away - apparently in a show of loyalty to Mancini.
Brian Kidd will act as caretaker boss for the rest of the season and the post-season tour to the USA after which he is expected to take up a role in the Manchester City academy at the Etihad campus.
