City in Juve battle for Italian maverick

Man CityManchester City boss Mark Hughes is being linked with an interest in Sampdoria's Italian maverick Antonio Cassano.

The 26-year-old ex-Roma and Real Madrid star has been in fine form for the Genoa-based club since his move there last season and has also been recently linked with a move to Juventus.

However, the Turin club are said to be lining him up to replace Alessandro Del Piero when he retires in 2010, which could give City a chance to steal him away from under the noses of the Italian giants.

Hughes admits he will be looking to address his side's 'frailties' in the January transfer window and may see the qualities that a support striker like Cassano has as ideal, allowing him to play Robinho on the wing and revert to a more traditional formation.
