The agent of Porto's Fernando has confirmed he will be playing in the Premier League next season and Manchester City lead the race.
City failed to take the highly-rated 26-year-old midfielder to the Etihad Stadium in the January transfer window and are expected to approach the Portuguese outfit when the window opens at the end of the season.
However, Fernando muddied the waters at the start of this week by agreeing to sign a new contract to tie him to Porto until summer 2017.
But the player's representative, Antonio Araujo, has broken his silence to confirm that the new deal does not mean he will be staying put at Porto. Indeed, he is adamant that a move to England is a near certainty with City leading a queue of clubs to sign him.
Araujo told RTP: "God willing, Fernando will play in the Premier League.
"Manchester City were a strong candidate but were not alone in the race. They are a strong candidate and a great club."
