City spy on Atletico Madrid duo

Manchester City made a fresh check on Belgian centre-back Toby Alderweireld as his Atletico Madrid side drew at Villarreal on Sunday.

A report in El Periodica Meditarreneo claims City had a scout at the match, alongside representatives of Barcelona and Malaga, which finished 1-1 - a result which keeps Atletico in second place in the table.

Alderweireld, 24, was making only his second La Liga start of the season following his £6million switch from Ajax in the summer as a replacement for City-bound Martin Demichelis.

The Belgian remains on City's radar, however, with the club having watched him impress alongside Vincent Kompany at international level where he often plays at right-back.

City could also have been checking on Atletico's Spanish international wide player Koke, 21, who is having a fine season for Diego Simeone's side and is attracting attention from the big two in La Liga.
