City to spend big on Torres

Liverpool face a battle to keep hold of Fernando Torres in the summer as Manchester City plan a £50million swoop.

City have long been linked with a move for the Spanish ace but so far Liverpool have been able to fend off their interest and the player also pledged his future by penning a new contract at Anfield.

However that has not stopped rumours suggesting City are still in for the striker and reports claim their Arab owners will not rest until they land Torres and are willing to pay whatever it takes.

The striker has always insisted he is happy at Liverpool but following the Reds early exit from the Champions League coupled with their failure to challenge for the title this season, it is claimed he may consider his future in the summer.

City may not qualify for the Champions League next season but they convinced Carlos Tevez, Emmanuel Adebayor and Gareth Barry to sign without it last summer and will be confident of doing the same with Torres.
