Manchester City have problems at right-back after Pablo Zabaleta picked up a hamstring injury in the Capital One Cup win at Leicester.
The 28-year-old Argentinian lasted only 12 minutes of the 3-1 quarter-final success before limping off at the King Power Stadium.
And, with Micah Richards also absent due to injury, boss Manuel Pellegrini faces a potential headache in the full-back position.
Dedryck Boyata replaced Zabaleta in the game on Tuesday and could now be handed an opportunity to shine in that position in the coming matches over the Christmas period.
Pellegrini said: "Pablo has a problem with his hamstring. We will see tomorrow how serious it is.
"It is the only bad thing of this game.
"Of course now we don't have a (right) full-back. Maybe we will have to see what we can do in that position."
Striker Stevan Jovetic pulled out of the squad despite travelling after coming down with an illness but Pellegrini expects him to be fit for the trip to Fulham Saturday.
Pellegrini was delighted with the professionalism of his much-changed side at Leicester as Edin Dzeko boosted his first-team chances with a brace after Aleksandar Kolarov opened the scoring with a fine free-kick.
He said: "It was very important for the team to continue in the Capital One.
"We knew it was not going to be an easy game because Leicester are a very good team, they were playing at home and were motivated.
"The team played very well, especially in the first half.
"Maybe when the score was 3-0 we stopped a little bit in our pace.
"Leicester had possession of the ball in the last minutes but I think it was a professional performance in all senses."
