Germans part Kompany

Man CityMan City have had a bid for Belgian starlet Vincent Kompany accepted by Hamburg, according to the Bundesliga club.

The ex-Anderlecht star, who also can play as a defensive midfielder, is on his way to Manchester for a medical and to talk personal terms with Mark Hughes.

The City boss swooped after rumours of a rift emerged following Kompany's reluctant return from the Olympics where his country were fighting for a medal.

Hamburg boss Martin Jol recalled the 22-year-old for the big clash with Bayern Munich then left him out of the side, oinly bringing Kompany on midway through the second half.

No fee has been announced but it unlikely to be much less than the £7million Hamburg paid Anderlecht for him two years ago.

"We wish Vincent nothing but the best for his sporting future," said Hamburg sports director Dietmar Beiersdorfer on hsv.de.
