Hughes confident of Euro progress

Man CityMark Hughes believes Manchester City can progress their Uefa Cup adventure into the New Year following Tuesday's draw.

The group stages start next month and Hughes' side must finish in the top three of their group which includes Steve McClaren's FC Twente, German giants Schalke, French side Paris Saint Germain Racing Santander.

Hughes believes his team can progress beyond the group stages and into the knockout competition early next February.

He told the Manchester Evening News: "It's obviously a pretty tough group that we find ourselves in.

"But given the fact that this is a very strong competition full of good teams, this was always going to be the case.

"If you look across the board, there are some really testing teams in all the groups.

"And to be playing at this level in high-profile games can only be good for our club.

"It will be a challenge but I'm confident that we can progress further in the competition."
