Hughes in demand - reports

Man CityTottenham have reportedly lined up Mark Hughes to replace Juande Ramos after deciding the Spaniard is a 'lame duck' manager.

Spurs currently sit at the foot of the Premier League with just two points from their opening six fixtures and should they fail to beat high-flying Hull City at White Hart Lane on Saturday then Ramos' reign could be over.

The situation echoes the circumstances surrounding Ramos' own arrival at the club - the Spaniard took the job after Martin Jol's dismissal as Spurs endured a torrid opening to the 2007/08 campaign.

Reports have emerged that claim Spurs have offered Hughes a £20million deal over five years to prise him away from mega-rich City.

City's new owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan has demanded that the Blues lift the Champions League by 2011 - a daunting task for Hughes or indeed any boss - and Spurs hope that by upping his wages and offering less pressure they can persuade Hughes to swap Manchester for London.

Sheikh Mansour is keen to keep hold of his boss, and he said: "We want to make it clear that Mark Hughes is absolutely integral to our plans.

"We are lucky to have someone who we believe is the best young British manager ? someone who has been successful on the global stage, the Premier League and of course as a player."
