Hughes pleased with patient City

Man CityMark Hughes was pleased with the way his City stars stuck at their task, as the Blues eventually defeated EB Streymur 2-0 last night.

The new manager watched his side build on their 2-0 first leg win to eventually progress to the second UEFA Cup qualifying round 4-0 on aggregate. City though were frustrated in the first half of the return leg at Oakwell and it needed two second half goals to see off the team from the Faroe Islands - Martin Petrov opened the score three minutes after the break with Darius Vassell adding another in stoppage time.

Speaking after the game, Hughes admitted: "They defended extremely well. It was damage limitation from them really, but you have to give them praise for their efforts.

"Their goalkeeper had a wonderful night, they threw bodies in the way of everything and made life very difficult for us."

The City boss added: "I was pleased with my lads. They kept at them and if their goalkeeper had not had such a great night, we would have won it at a canter."
