Hughes reveals City fight

Man CityMan City boss Mark Hughes feels the Uefa Cup qualifying campaign has given him a headstart as he looks to find his best side.

City should finish the job against Faroe Islands minnows EB/Streymur at Oakwell on Thursday night, given their two-goal lead from the first leg, and new boss Hughes insists the fight for places is on.

He told the club's website: "We are now very much into our preparation for the Premier League season, which is upon us very soon.

"The guys that are involved are playing for places and looking to wear the shirt on the first day. I sense they are very much wanting to show what they can do, and trying to impress."

City start the Premier League season with a trip to Aston Villa on August 19.
