Inter Milan will step up their attempts to sign Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko this summer, according to reports in Italy.
The 24-year-old Bosnia international appeared set to be offloaded by City chief Manuel Pellegrini when the summer transfer window opens for business as he has been restricted to a bit-part role at the Etihad Stadium for most of this season.
But the £27million arrival from Wolfsburg in January 2011 has edged his way back ahead of Alvaro Negredo in the pecking order of late and repaid the faith shown in him by bagging a brace in Tuesday's 3-0 derby win at Manchester United to take his tally for the season to 20.
Despite Dzeko's resurgent form it has not stopped speculation linking him with a move away from the Etihad Stadium with Italian giants Inter consistently credited with an interest.
Reports in Italy this week have again suggested that the Nerazzurri will try and sign Dzeko at the end of the season, while director Piero Ausilio, who has denied his recent trips to England have been to try and sort out a deal for the player, has now confirmed that they are in the market for a forward.
He told Sky Italia: "Aside from the names, I think it's obvious we are working in that direction for that role."
