Manchester City have reportedly received an approach from Newcastle for the services of right-back Micah Richards.
It is being claimed that the Magpies have made an enquiry about the availability of the 25-year-old England international as boss Alan Pardew attempts to bolster his right-back options at St James' Park in January.
Richards has returned from a long-term injury problem this season but he is finding his path to the first-team blocked by Pablo Zabaleta at the moment.
City boss Manuel Pellegrini has urged Richards to fight for a place in the side, but the player is thought to be growing frustrated at his lack of action since returning to fitness.
Richards still has two years remaining on his contract at the Etihad Stadium and would cost around £15million, but that fee is unlikely to be prohibitive to Newcastle who did very little transfer business in the summer.
A deal would come down to whether Pellegrini would be willing to offload him and if Richards would be keen to link up with the Tynesiders where he would be handed regular first-team action.
