Roberto Mancini will offer Atletico Madrid a huge £45million to take Radamel Falcao to Manchester City, according to reports.
The City chief is desperate to get the prolific Colombian hitman, who has scored 49 goals in 60 Atletico appearances, to the Etihad Stadium to boost their attempts to retain the Premier League crown and ensure no repeat of this term's disappointing Champions League form next season.
However, there are several obstacles in City's path if they are going to strike a deal for Falcao as Premier League rivals Chelsea are also interested in signing the player, who recently admitted he is not looking to leave the Spanish Primera Liga outfit. It has also been reported this week that City's new director of football Txiki Begiristain has told Mancini he will have to offload one of his current forwards to make a space for Falcao's reported £200,000-a-week wage deal.
Edin Dzeko was the first name mentioned to depart, while claims that Mario Balotelli has again breached club discipline might see him become the man to leave if City can get back the £24million paid out to Inter for his signature in summer 2010.
