Roberto Mancini is reportedly set to make Barcelona winger Alexis Sanchez one of his top summer transfer targets for Manchester City.
The City chief wanted to sign the 24-year-old Chile international in summer 2011 when he was plying his trade for Italian Serie A side Udinese.
However, Sanchez snubbed him and opted to make the move to Barca instead in a deal worth £25million.
The move to the Catalan giants has not paid off for the player because he has found first-team football difficult to come by at the Nou Camp.
As a result, Mancini will move in with an offer of regular action at the Etihad Stadium, while City's sporting director Txiki Begiristain, who helped take Sanchez to Barca, will no doubt play a key part in negotiations.
City are also hoping that influential midfielder Yaya Toure will agree to sign a new deal at the club despite speculation he is looking for a move away with a year remaining on his current contract.
