Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala has claimed Manchester City were interested in him over the summer but that "nothing was ever close".
City, along with Chelsea, Barcelona and Manchester United, were linked with the France international over the summer, but Mangala remained with Porto.
The 22-year-old has now confirmed City made a tentative enquiry, but he insists he was never close to leaving Porto.
"Manchester City were interested a few days ago, but nothing was ever close," he told A Bola.
"I'm a Porto player and I feel good here. I have no problem with this issue.
"I am fine here and focused on what we can do this season."
Manuel Pellegrini is expected to continue to monitor Mangala's progress at Porto, although the Portuguese club have made it clear they have no intention of allowing the Frenchman to leave.
