Silva miffed at Mata's Chelsea struggles

David Silva has admitted his surprise at fellow Spainard Juan Mata's struggles at Chelsea this season.

Mata was linked with a shock move away from Chelsea in the summer following Jose Mourinho's return to Stamford Bridge and he initially struggled to work his way into the starting XI.

However, he has now managed to earn a spot in Mourinho's side and Silva says his fellow countryman is too good not to be playing regularly for Chelsea.

He said: "It did surprise me when he was dropped and I don't think I was the only one," the City ace said in the Daily Mail.

"The years he has spent playing at Chelsea, he has brought a lot to the side and contributed hugely to their team effort.

"Now he's back among the ranks, he is starting to prove what he can do and is producing again. He is a top player and I think he has given Chelsea a lot in his time."
