Valdes set to be Hart replacement

Manchester City have been linked with a swoop for Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes as Joe Hart's long-term replacement.

City boss Manuel Pellegrini finally lost patience with Hart following his late gaffe in the 2-1 Premier League defeat at Chelsea on October 27 and has left him on the substitutes' bench for the last three games in all competitions.

Costel Pantilimon is the man currently in possession of the gloves and he is set to remain between the sticks for Sunday's trip to face struggling Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

However it is being reported that Pellegrini will look to entice Barca's 31-year-old Spain international, Valdes, who has confirmed his desire to leave the Camp Nou at the end of the season, to the Etihad Stadium.

If City fail to secure a deal for Valdes then QPR's Julio Cesar is being mentioned as a possible alternative, while Pellegrini will possibly look to sell Hart on in order to fund a move for a new custodian.
