Manchester City are being linked with Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane as doubts surround the fitness of Vincent Kompany.
Kompany has been struggling with injury in the early part of this season and is currently on the sidelines with a thigh problem that will keep him out of Sunday's clash with Tottenham.
Manuel Pellegrini has said he is reluctant to spend big money on another defender as Kompany is closing in on a return to fitness and could be back in training next week.
However he is still weighing up his options and 20-year-old Varane appears to be one of them, although they would have to fork out a hefty sum as Real value him at £25million.
Benfica's Ezequiel Garay also continues to be linked.
