Manchester City new boy Adam Johnson has targeted an England place following his deadline-day move from Middlesbrough.
Johnson became big-spending City's latest recruit when he moved to Eastlands for £7million and immediately revealed he has ambitions to force his way into Fabio Capello's national squad.
"Maybe if there's a couple of injuries, who knows? If I can play well, I'm sure the England manager watches Manchester City games most weeks.," he said in the Daily Star.
The England Under-21 winger admitted he simply could not turn down the chance of a move to City and is delighted with the switch.
He added: "This is a club going places. I've been wanting this move to happen since I first heard about the interest. My mind was set then."
"Ambition is the key word for me. It's an ambitious club and I've a good chance of winning things and making myself a better player here.
"I know Micah Richards and Nedum Onuoha from the Under-21s, having spent all the summer with them, so I'm among good friends.
"Life is too short to turn down an opportunity like this and that's why I had to come."
